Columbo is an American crime TV series of Richard Levinson and William Link in which the title role, played by Peter Falk, is a police inspector (his rank in the US police is that of a lieutenant) in appearance a bit simple, rough, laborious, but in reality very intelligent, obstinate and insightful. He is always wearing the same crumpled beige raincoat, the same cream-colored shirt, the same tie, the same worn-out shoes, and is constantly smoking a cigar (which he buys at the supermarket). The series has this original that, unlike other series of the genre, the inspector is not armed and the viewer knows the killer from the beginning of the episode, the interest of the plot to discover what way the investigator will manage to unmask the criminal. The lieutenant drives a Peugeot 403 convertible gray whose condition deteriorates as the evolution of the series, to the point of having a dilapidated comically contrasting with the often luxurious vehicles of his interlocutors. This vehicle is a cabriolet which he almost never takes off the hood
